And a Humbug in a pear tree

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 10:06 AM
Well, phooey. Oklahoma hasn't managed to clear any of the roads between our house and Chris & Don's place in the country, so we're having separate Christmas's this year. Not as much fun. No yummy brunch and I don't get to see the kitchen remodel. We're going to see if it's possible to get there tomorrow, but right now I'm scheduled to work. I won't know until morning if the call center is going to be open or not.

Be careful what you wish for

Well, we've got a White Christmas. Unfortunately, here in OKC it's several inches of snow driven into drifts by 50 MPH winds on top of a nice layer of ice. We're all tucked in safely for the night, but travel tomorrow will be a real treat. I had to change plans for Christmas dinner dessert because I couldn't get out to the grocery store this morning. So, we'll just have to settle for baked chocolate souffle instead. Poor us.

Silly fun

Two medieval fairs
...and a sca in a pear tree.

What would it take to get ME to start a new life on a new world?

A ticket on a starship.

Not that I'm a prime candidate to be a colonist, mind you. I'm no longer fertile and of an age that I'm unlikely to actually see planetfall, interstellar travel times being what they are. Thanks to my grandfather and the SCA, however, I am chock full of low tech survival skills like hunting, fishing, growing crops, and child rearing. Go back in time and make the offer to me when I was 25 and I'd have been on the next shuttle.

another swell customer

Lady from upstate New York calls all bent out of shape. She had been told her item was out for delivery and that UPS delivers up to 7 pm. She checked her front porch at 7 pm and no package. Checked in the morning, and there was her product. Apparently UPS has moved to their holiday schedule of "deliver everything in your truck before you come back and we don't care how long that takes." She was very upset that the product has "sat out in the cold all night". Guess what she had ordered. An ice cream maker.

one more day...

...and my work week is done. Thursday is B's birthday and I'm taking her to lunch at Red Lobster. It would have been her choice for the family dinner, but she is worried that Chris might have a reaction to shellfish if she tried to eat there, so she is picking another restaurant. I think she's settled on Johnny Corino's but don't quote me.

I wanted to get her cake from a local bakery called Raspberries & Creme. Excellent cakes, although very pricey. They have changed their hours and are now open 10 am to 4 pm M-F. They are too far away for a round trip on my lunch break, so they don't get my business. Fortunately, La Baguette is also excellent and they keep sensible hours.

So, who's my customer of the day? It's a tie between the lady who wanted a 25% discount on a big order because one word was misspelled in the gift message and she was 'embarrassed', or the guy who willfully misread our ship quote and wanted a big discount because his sofa didn't ship via UPS. In three days. From LA to Vermont.
